My Congress monster may be gone

But we have some folks who want her job

State Rep. Nancy Detert and former Sarasota Republican Party Chairman Tramm Hudson are already in the race, and Sarasota businessman Vern Buchanan has said he will decide soon whether to run.

a sub par state rep, some buisness guy, the sarasota GOP chair who is mobbed up

Hudson disputes the idea that Galvano has an advantage in Manatee just because he may be the only person from that county.

"The issues facing our country transcend the county lines," Hudson said.

But at the same time, Hudson is quick to point out that former U.S. Rep. Dan Miller and former state Sen. Pat Neal, both from Manatee County, are working on his campaign.

Dan was a good congressman even though i never voted for him. Did lots of good constiuent service for me

The big question could be how Lakewood Ranch voters line up. When Miller ran in 1992, Lakewood Ranch didn't exist.

With thousands of Republican voters now living in the area right on the Manatee-Sarasota border, the political dynamics have changed. Many of those voters identify themselves with Sarasota, said Bennett.

Rich snobs (its true folks) May be more likely to vote for a Sarasota republican.

but we have a Manatee county republican running, along the same strategy of the only home town boy as Dan Miller did

State Rep. Bill Galvano of Bradenton, elected to the House in 2002, will try to take advantage of legislative action this year that permanently eliminated the second primary.

As possibly Manatee's only candidate, he will strive to carry the bulk of the county's 85,000 registered Republican voters while hoping that Sarasota's 117,000 Republicans split their votes among state Rep. Nancy Detert of Venice, and businessmen Vern Buchanan and Tramm Hudson of Sarasota.

With at least four candidates and no second primary, the winner could achieve victory with significantly less than 50 percent of the vote.

the no second primary thing is key.... I think in cases like this we should have one but... we'll get a poorer choice.

though at least it will be a boring choice
