Because..> CLEARLY.. you shouldn't do this before

Professor Bainbridge ( the intellectual heart of the Anti-Miers blogs) has this lovely quote from the NYTs ( hat tip to the Commissar)

.. the White House was working to assemble a dossier that would back up its case about Ms. Miers' record of accomplishment, her legal qualifications and her conservative credentials. The administration was trying to assemble and review as much documentation as it could find about Ms. Miers's public record before she came to the White House, including details of her service on the Dallas City Council and her role as president of the State Bar of Texas.

Yes this is a clearly intelligent thing. I was tossing around with my friend Ken Kerns over IM about this. I told Ken If i was President I'd have a master list of judicial canidates.

Why you ask? So I don't have a very surprising moment of zen like this with a "Well gee maybe we should find out if we have a background problem"

This is the central part of my problem with the Mier's nomination. It seems sloppy and mishandled from the begining.

This wasn't like Dick Cheney tossing himself in on the VP selection. We all know that Dick is a known quantity. Had been for some time now.

This shows a white house that isn't running effectively and doesn't have its eye on the big picture
